Boot Init Question

Wwhen linux is booting it comes to a point where it says:

INIT: version 2.86 booting
Welcome to MEPIS Linux!

My question is - can I change this welcome text? If so - how?

And secondly, now that is dead, is there another source that I can apt-get install bootsplash themes from? Thanks!
