Angry boot failure

hello! am using slackware 12.0 and am getting this error message! " An error occured during the root filesystem check" I need help on how to fix the problem!

pliz help!

have you actually made it to a command prompt? Or does the keyboard lights just sit and flash (kernel hang)?

yes i have made it to the command prompt and no (kernel hung)! just requesting me to login into 'single user-mode' to fix the problem! how do i do this?

Then login into single user mode and do a file system check.
fsck -y
