boot command from floppy to start cdrom
I have finally gotten my old laptop to boot a linux disk: the boot floppy I made with the redhat7.3 install cd. I get to the point where it asks for a boot command(boot:), but I can't find the "install linux cdrom" command in my redhat book. I have set the boot order as follows: cdrom-fdd-hdd. The cd's being used are the ones provided with my redhat7.3 book. They worked well to install on my desk top machine. Previously, I could'nt get a boot floppy anywhere, so I'm making progess, albeit really slowly. I want to install rh7.3 with a boot floppy and cdrom support. -Jeffy.

You should be able to boot directly to you cdrom, if that doesn't work and you started the installation with a floppy, usually at that boot: prompt, you just hit your enter key to start the installation, it will look for the cdrom during the installation when its ready to install the packages for you system..

This is an old p133mhz laptop with a 5gig hd, and it never has booted a cd, unless it was windows: 95, 98, xp, xp pro, but never the linux cd's. The floppy is the most I have achieved. Maybe I can give an " install to cd-rom" command to kick it into action. It doesn't recognise the cd as bootable, though I booted the same cd on my desktop comp. What is the proper command to load the cd after getting the boot prompt from the floppy? -Jeffy.

There is no command that I know of, usually when you start the installation with a floppy, during the install it should ask you where your going to install from, like what media your going to install from, CD, Network.. Hard drive.. etc..

It seems that my boot floppy from the rh 7.3 install does'nt include the kernel image. How do I get this image on floppy, so I can continue the install from cdrom? The laptop in question seems to prefer floppies over cd's when it comes to linux media. I appreciate help offered, even if it's not the cure. -Jeffy.
