boot and X screwed up

I just recently reinstalled my Fedora Core 1 machine and I spent nearly the whole day running up2date to make sure that I have all of the most up to date software and everything, and then partway through it came up with an error that said the GPG signature was wrong and that the package was most likely corrupted or had been tampered with. I didn't think much about it and said that it was all right to continue. Then when it came time to start installing the packages, it came up with a fatal rpm installation error on httpd. Now when I boot up, it won't connect to the network, X doesn't work at all, and I'm sure that there are more things that I'm not listing that don't work anymore. I really want this system to work... Any suggestions? The specs on my machine are as follows:

P3 850 MHz
512 MB pc133 ram
2 hard drives, both Maxtor 7200 RPM, one is 30 GB, the other is 80 GB.
(26 some gb for /
1 gb for swap
100 mb for boot
80 gb for /home)

GeForce4 MX440SE Video card configured for dual monitors
TDK 24x10x40x CD burner
16x DVD-ROM Drive
I don't remember the type of network card, but I think that it doesn't matter, it worked before this happened.

Before all of this happened, I was able to run everything that I wanted, the network worked, I had it booting to runlevel 3 instead of 5 like fedora does by default, and I hadn't really installed that much on it. I'm assuming that maybe there were some bad RPMs that I downloaded that screwed my system over. I have all of my data backed up, so reformatting and starting new is a possibility. I would like to get this thing working again without reformatting if at all possible. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all (you've been a great help up to this point).

Doesn't rpm have some kind of uninstall capability? Perhaps that would fix it...

What kind of errors do you get when you try to start X and when it tries connecting to the network?

it says:
xauth: error while loading shared libraries: libXmuu.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

and it does this about 6 times

and the thing about the rpm uninstall is that I don't know exactly which rpms were bad. The only ones that I really saw that it complained about was httpd. and I'm not using that one.

and I can connect to the network, its just that it doesn't do it automagically like it usually does. I had it set to start up on boot, and it isn't doing that.
