OK I'm a NOOB,
Hello, My question is, I have a Suse Linux 8.2 Users guide. I am wondering if the info about configureing KDE and GNOME and other useful instructions like Mounting hardware and downloading and opening software like antivirus for linux is applicable to other disto's like Ubuntu, or Mepis,Puppy,or DSL,or Slax,Momomga,Debian,Xubhuntu,SAM,Oh hell you get the idea. I am not DOS-Command line literate,so everything I need to learn about running linux is in this book. It covers alot of ground.I am hoping that whatever distro I try to use, that this book will help no matter what distro I try. So can I use the info in this book for running basic command lines in other distro's and does KDE and GNOME the same in all disto's. Mainly trying the do it myself approach. I am running Ubuntu's Hardy Heron, sole O\S not dual boot, In a panasonic cf-48,1.6 ghz,512mb ram, 100 gig H\D.

It's an old book but command line related matter should still be relevant and applicable to any Linux. Gnome and KDE just provide GUIs to many of those commands but they are likely to have evolved quite a bit since Suse 8. You can supplement your book with the many resources that are available on your system and on the internet. For starters, you can install the rutebook that is available from the Ubuntu repositories. Very instructive and it can also be read on-line. Then there are sites like www.yolinux.com and www.linuxdocs.org. And more!

Thanks for the info and prompt reply. I know its an older book (2003) but I just want to use the basic info since I'm a right click open file kind of guy.

That should be the most relevant as Ubuntu uses Gnome by default. I'm sure you'll find something similar if you install KDE too.
