Blurry fonts and slooow Chromium and TuxRacer
 

Hi,

Here's the spec of my PC: A Dell Dimension 4600 with

Pentium 4 HT @ 2.6GHz
512 MB Main Memory
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro with 128MB Memory
Creative Labs SoundBlaster Live 5.1
2 HDDs (one with 40GB and the other with 80GB)
Proview 870 18in LCD


I installed Fedora Core 2 on my PC (with WinXP+Linux dual boot) last night. The installation actually went pretty smoothly once I got over shrinking one of my NTFS partitions and adding a couple of new partitions for Linux.

Now, I have several problems that I can't resolve:

1. I run the GUI at 1280X1024, but the fonts are really blurry. I tried all four choices in the "Fonts" preference and none of them looked good. I suspect that it has to do with my monitor-- the "Display" preference has my monitor set to "Generic LCD". And there's no Proview 870 in the list of the supported monitors.

2. When I run Chromium or Tux Racer, the window that the game runs in is refreshed probably once every second. That makes the game unplayable.

3. The default driver for the soundcard didn't work. I tried the driver from ALSA. This new driver did make some sound during self test, but other audio software, such as CD player, still makes no sound.

If you have any idea/pointer on what may fix the problems, please let me know. Thank you.

To get your games running properly I think you need to install drivers from the ati website. Download the linux drivers and follow the readme. I think thats what you need to do.
