blueray, laptops & Linux?

I run Ubuntu and I was wondering if there Linux worked with Laptops with a Blu-Ray driver in them.

Blu-Ray drives are supported for both reading and writing data discs, but there is no actual BR video player available for Linux due to licensing issues (and as of yet no way to circumvent those issues like what was done with DVD).
