bleachbit v bleachbit(as root)
 

can someone please explain the differance, and suggest which one i should use, many thanks:confused:

Hi!

Basically, if you run BleachBit as regular user you can clean all those temporary, backup files and alike which belong to you, aka in /home/you.

Running it as root would do the same but system wide. It is not wise to run it as root if you don't know what you're doing. Also, at the moment, some of the options which are only available in "root mode" are in alpha or beta stages.

Here is a thread I started about bleachbit. I thought you may be interested in seeing if you can also validate what me and another poster found. This much is for sure, bleachbit does not wipe all unallocated space and some files are recoverable at least with the foremost utility. "apt-get install foremost". I would install sluethkit as well from source so you can pipe unallocated space to foremost for testing with blkls. All the commands, tests and results are in this thread
