blank screen after installing nvidia driver on fc12 64 bit
hi all,
i did yum -y install akmod-nvidia and then type xconfig-nvidia on the terminal, and after logging off i confront with a blank screen,
so i remove akomd-nvidia [yum remove akomd-nvidia] and also yum erase xorg-x11-drv-nouveau [yum erase xorg-x11-drv-nouveau]
but still no gui,
i think i should install:
yum install kmod-nvidia
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 [but i didn't]
so how can i have my gui back?
should i reinstall my fc12?
thanks in advance
I had conflicting issues with installing kmod-nvidia, the nouveau driver not wanting to die. I removed it and renamed nouveau.ko to nouveau.ko.backup and finally added rdblacklist=nouveau
thanks for helping,i find something maybe helpful:
to determine if your kernel is PAE or not just type uname -r If the output does not end in PAE you will need the standard kernel module. If it does end in PAE you will need the PAE kernel module.
and in order to Keep nouveau from loading:
in terminal:
su -c 'mv /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r)-nouveau.img'
and also:
su -c 'dracut /boot/initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)'
To use the default initrd, but disable the nouveau driver, edit /etc/grub.conf and add the following to the end of the line(s) starting with 'kernel':
rdblacklist=nouveau
the first time when i install fc12 64bit and not perform the yum update command, when i try yum install komd-nvidia [with rpmfusion free&nonefree installed] it told me that there is no package but there were akmod-nvidia [that i've installed],after goggling i found that i must have rpmfusion free and nonefree and also the test [if i'm right] and also to run the yum update command at first,as i'm still on dial up my question is would yum update, update every package on the system?
and WreckeD do we have the same problem!
