Question blackscreen during bootup to gui

I have installed slackware 12.1 on ide1 master
I have windows xp on sata1
Using bios I set which drive to boot from
During slack boot i get slack screen,press enter
shows bios check ok
Screen turns black during boot sequence until login screen in gui appears
I have set slack to boot directly to gui
if i reset it to boot to slack before using xstart all i get is a black screen
running a gigabyte mb model ga-8ipe1000,with intel 3.0 cpu and 3 gigs of ram

Long time since I experienced something like that bt it might have to do with your frame buffer settings. Have a look at your kernel settings and make sure your video card supports the resolution.

Sorry I can't help more. No access to a shell right now.
