Black screen when running startx ?
After a new install of slack 12.2, Before and after running xwmconfig I get a black screen. I checked the Xorg log file and see no errors or even warnings. Trying to use KDE.
I have a feeling it is because I am using an LCD display, I remember I had to manually edit xorg before but dont remember what I did. Is there another xorg configuration utility I can run to get KDE up and running |
After looking at kdm.log theres almost nothing there and the last 2 lines read "image is a null image"
Could that have something to do with the blank screen I am getting? |
I hit ctrl alt f1 and got a bunch of errors,
bad font path cannot open knotify library cannot open shared object file and something about artsd. None of the desktop environments work using startx. Should I try to reinstall KDE? using pkgtool? |
what does your x logs say? (see /var/log/)
make a xorg.conf first. |
I just ran xorgsetup and that seems to have fixed things, I can now run startx and the different managers fire up, except I removed KDE. :(
Is it easy to reinstall KDE? Sorry for changing the subject....... :o |
yes ...use the *better package managers* for slackware
|
I have the slack disks. I dont remember how to install KDE off the disks though
Ive never heard of the " better package manager " |
