Black screen!

I`ve just installed mandrake 10.0, and everything in the installation-process was allright until I started the linux for the first time. There was apparently no connection to my screen (or graphic card) and the screen turned off! It was a real turn-off! Just a black screen! During the installation process it was mentioned that mandrake didnt work with Nvidia graphic cards because there was no commercial software in it or something, and apparently it is true... My graphic card is a Nvidia Geforce FX 5200.. Is there anything I can do to get things working?? My screen is a LG Flatron L1910s, btw..

exact same thing happened to me with mdk 9.2 and radeon 7000.

get aonther distro like suse or mepis.

suse is more like mandrake and mepis is more powerful.

Yeah, the same happened for me. I guess Mdk 9.2 has no support for a Radeon 7000. I tried Mdk 10.0 and with this one it worked. However, I liked working with Mdk 9.2 a lot more than with 10.0.

MDK 10 works fine with nvidia cards out of the box in 2D mode. I've installed it on boxes with a variety of nvidia cards MX440, 5600, etc... Unusual for it not to work. You do need to install the binary driver if you want 3D, same with ATI.

getting the machine to boot in text mode is a big help til you get the video right... But normally you should have no problems installing with an nvidia card, so I suggest you may have miised a step, or made an incorrect selection, during the install...

Solved the problem

amosf was right. I missed a step in the installation. My screen was set up to be 1600/1200 from the linux install, and I didnt even notice! So I reinstalled and changed it and everything is allright.. I guess I was a bit stupid.. Happy this is the newbie forum!!!

you don't need install mandrake again because of a mistake in configuration
just use the command drakeconf
for more command type drake and the use the TAB key for autocompletion
