BITPIM AND mandriva 2006

I just got a LX5200 verizon phone. I am interested in using BITPIM to be able to link to my PC and customize and more easily manage names/addresses,etc

I am running Mandriva 2006 Dec Club edition.

I down loaded the latest BITPIM program rpm ( for Linux.

I ordered and received at USB cable designed for this phone from everydaysource with the drivers for Windows.

I installed the RPM package and it recoginized the phone but no download of information. I was under the impression (and probably wrongly so) that Mandriva would natively (if that is the correct term---newbie ) utilize this cable without special drivers and/or tweeking.

Any help or insight much appreciated.
