Bit Torrent on RH9
 

OK, I got the RPM packages from the link at bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ and installed those, but that's pretty much it. I'm really new to Linux, and I'd like to know how to get BT running so I'm not always loading the HDD on my main PC. Any chance someone could give me a step-by-step on this? I looked through a few other threads on this, and I saw something about telling Mozilla to use the btdownloadgui file to open .torrent files, but that didn't help (assuming I did that correctly). Anyway, let me know exactly which packages I should have download/installed and what I should have done after that. Thanks for the help.

I used Bit Torrent to download Slack9.1 isos. I know, from what I had to do to get it to work, that it is somehow based on Python (hence the python package references in the above URL).

I'm thinking that, since you stated you got the BT packages, that they won't do you any good without the associated python packages (and maybe some gtk packages and wxpython for GUI interface?).

Just a thought...I'm fairly new at linux but I don't hesitate to post something that MIGHT help. If it doesn't, oh well. I'm not worried about gurus laughing at my advice. Just trying to help.

Cool, finally got it working.... the only package that I was missing was wxpython..... I had the regular Python 2.2 and all the other stuff. Thanks for the help. I'm still trying to learn how to install these non-RPM packages (like GLIB and GTK or whatever they were, but I think they were already installed because I didn't touch those). Thanks again.

I guess I owe beer for this being the first time I've helped someone on here (buying beer for "firsts" is a skydiving thing which I've found inseparable from my everyday life :p).

On a side note, anyone know of a better BT client for Linux other than the original? I'd really like to use one that shows me more information (#seeder/leechers, amt transferred, etc.) and the old BT client just doesn't have that. Also, downloads seem to be going much slower than on my XP machine. Is there an embedded firewall in Linux or something that's blocking too many ports for my DLs to go fast, because I know that blocked BT ports can slow downloads. Anyway, a link to a better client and any info on speeding up downloads would be great. Thanks.
