Bios Does not see Sata HD
 

I have a computer with 160GB HD which I assumed failed because computer bios quit recognizing it so I swapped it out with a 80GB HD reinstalled and boom it booted and ran like a pro. I got up today to find the computer become unbootable again and I noticed It wasn't detected. So I kinda wondering if the sata controller is destroying my harddrives so I put the harddrives in another system and they boot just fine. So my issues is now is getting the bios in the other computer to recognize them and what could be causeing this. I reset the bios and removed the battery as well. So what do you think?

Slightly moving the SATA cable caused a similar issue for me. Replaced it and
has been ok.

Well I got it working. I don't understand what was wrong. But I pulled out a stick of memory and reset the bios again and booted and it seen the harddrive then randomly rebooted. I reset the bios again and booted one more time I got a full working system with only 1 stick of 2GB ram so I shutdown and put the other stick back in and attempted to boot and couldn't even get to my bios. I pulled it reset bios again and booted and it worked. I shutdown swapped out memory sticks and found it booted just fine with it. I tried to put the 2nd back in and still couldn't get back to bios. So i booted again with only 1 stick it worked and shut it back down reinstalled the 2nd stick in the 2nd set of slots taking it out of dual channel and wouldn't boot. I moved it back to the 2nd slot putting it backinto duel channel and it booted with both sticks in. So now its working just fine see the hard drive. So I'm thinking its either the memory controler in the cpu or some componant on the motherboard going bad. Not really sure how to figure this out but I am going to run a memtest to check the memory.

If possible check the RAM also in a different machine, so that you can see if it is the controller or the RAM.
