Biometrics and other interface topics

I'm not sure if this should be posted here or in the general forum but here it goes:

I need to first off right now figure out how to use either a magnetic card reader (such as for credit cards) to read a users ID badge and log them into a mySQL database. I would perfer to use a finger print scanner though, but havn't seen any that work with linux. If anybody could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.

Another thing that I'm researching is interface electronics with linux, but I have a few resources already so its mainly just the access that is hanging me up right now.
