/bin/mail question.

Here's my problem. I want to email a message to an email address using /bin/mail

If I do the following code:
echo test1 |/bin/mail -s mike
It works and I have a mail message.

But I can't seem to mail to an email address that is outside my box. Ie.
echo test2 |/bin/mail -s
I never get the email when I check inbox. What can I do to try and solve this problem?

You need to give more data. What distro are you using? What are you using for your MTA? I am assuming that all of the above would still have to run through the MTA. I am new at this also. Is this box set up as a mail server? Need more input.
