It's called grammar and you get much better responses when you use it.

Linux isn't the best for gaming, you can try using Cedega to play windows games on linux but it won't support every single game. They're doing a pretty decent job so far though supporting major titles.

Many games are native (Doom3, Q3A, UT2003/2004, Neverwinter Nights, etc.) These many times require you to download an installer that is run with a console command, like

bash ProgramName.run

Assuming you are root....

To my knowledge doom legacy is an addon to the doom game and will not run without it.

I recommend you browsing a little at the links above. About how to deal with tar.gz files should be answered in the second link. Very brieflz: tar is an archive and tar.gz is a compressed archive. You can unpack such a compressed archive from command line with
Code:
tar xzvf <filename>
or use a right-click on the file, then ('Actions'?) 'Extract to'. In the extracted folder you will find more detailed instructions on how to proceed.

SuSE is easy to use (due to Yast) and comes with a lot of software (at least the professional package). I don't know much about it's gaming capabilities, but e.g. the NVIDIA graphic drivers are easy to install via Yast Online Update.

It is not necessary to log in as root! You may become root temporary if you need (using su and kdesu).

OK, that it for now. Good luck!
