Thanks, I really want to switch operating systems... AND YES i can burn, i have burners, cd's etc and additional computers around the house. I have heard its hard initially, but i know a couple of programming languages, so I should be fine!

Well your hardware is cool. All will work fine. The only prblem area under Linux is an internal modem. That's the only pain in the a... ankle
To try games and your graphics being rendered right you can use Morphix( http://www.morphix.org) It is a live cd game distribution. That is you don't have to install it to your hard disc. It will run directly off the cd.
About downloading distributions, you go to the download page where you see several folders. You need to go to the folder i386/ and from under there select the most stable/recent iso image of the distribution.
When you click on one iso, it leads you to a page with several mirrors from where you can download it from. Select any mirror and begin to download.
Cheers.

yes you can play windows games under linux using wine. You'd have to do a lot of reading before you can get along with wine.

yes it is hard for those of us newe to linux to get it to install at first...took me about 25 trys and about 6 differant distributions....make sure you don't have a cheap harddrive you might burn th bearings in it reformating...i did anyway... one other thing would be to download a copy of your bios firmware so you can reflash laater sometimes differant distributions change that...
