Best Utilities

Currently in my Windows Enviroment I have an indepth error finder for harddrives, a file recovery utility to get deleted files back from fat and ntfs partitions and extensive irus scanning. I'd love to get my laptop all the way over to linux (even if I have to pay a litte). So mainly I would like to know if there are any utilities like that out for linux. Thanks

The utilities category on freshmeat would be a good starting point. Try doing some searches there for the particular kinds of utilities you're looking for.

you could also take a look at sourceforge. It is similar to freshmeat but still worth a look.
