Best/Suitable Virtualization technique/technology?

Hi LQ,

We brought 4 physical servers with the following specs:
140GB RAM, ~2TB HDD, Intel processor which supports virtualization.

My Assumption:
We used to have 20 physical servers(these host virtual machines)which run citrix xen and with a SAN(5TB) attached.
But, now we have 4 servers(as i mentioned above)with 8 300GB Hard disk(~2TB). So we are thinking we can dump our STORAGE(SAN) and we want to use the local Hard disks on each servers for storing the virtual machines images.

1.we are checking KVM and to use Openstack if possible.
2. Gluster or cehp.

Please help me.
I'm not much familier with these technologies, so if you find anything wrong in my question please correct me.

Thanks.

I would think that you should look at VMWare and VirtualBox alongside the packages you mention. Might be a good idea to grab a spare machine and evaluate each -- won't take but an hour or two -- and get a feel for what will work best in your situation. In any case, before you settle on something look at the other available somethings; what the heck, there's no cost to do so and you might find the "perfect" fit.

There are a few things you can do...but what **I** would (and have done) this...

RHEV-M with RHSS on the backend. https://access.redhat.com/site/docum...ide/index.html

If you don't want to pay for the support you can always use the FOSS versions of these technologies: oVirt with GlusterFS on the backend

Might be worth a look at proxmox.
