if you want to look at others try:

Kubuntu

Mandriva move

PCLinuxOS .92

ftp://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/metalab/distr...glish/preview/

This is the distro I use and recommend, Why because it works right out of the box. No need to configure Everything, everything just works. It also comes as a 1 CD install that is a live CD that you can install later if you wish.

Mephis

Hope this Helps

I recommend 2,
ubuntu- especially acer laptop. It solve your acpi problem and you can detect you battery correctly
backtrack-best for test network, and it allow you to do system recovery. Plus it allow you to boot everything from ram. So you can get lighting fast performance.

It really depends on the laptops specs, if its older then something like Puppy; if it is a newer high end laptop then pretty much any Livecd should work reasonable well. I would suggest PCLinuxOS or Kanotix.
