I recommend 2,
ubuntu- especially acer laptop. It solve your acpi problem and you can detect you battery correctly backtrack-best for test network, and it allow you to do system recovery. Plus it allow you to boot everything from ram. So you can get lighting fast performance. |

It really depends on the laptops specs, if its older then something like Puppy; if it is a newer high end laptop then pretty much any Livecd should work reasonable well. I would suggest PCLinuxOS or Kanotix.
