Best linux version for use with windows games

Hi,

I am a newb to Linux, but this is how far i got before asking my question.

Installed Redhat 9 succesfully and made my internet work on it.
Also upgraded to the most recent versions of those "packages"

I had problems with WINE because the main reason to delete windows and to use linux is when i can get my Warcraft3 The Frozen throne game work on my pc.

this is where tho problem occurs..

I succeeded installing it succesfully on redhat9 however when i started the game for the first time it was VERY slow (meanwhile i use a P4 1600mhz/4xx mb ram) it was fullscreen but still a part of the desktop was visible in the corner of screen. The next time i wanted to start the game it did not work, wich i find very strange. if it works 1 time why not a second time?

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOW MY QUESTION is, is there a way to make warcraft3 work sucessfull on redhat9 OR is it a better suggestion to install another Linux version wich support this and other games better?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

AND.. I could make WINE hardly work, it didnt appear on my desktop as an clickable icon or sumthing.. i had to manually search to complete system for it.

Sorry to bother you qwijibow, the web address posted from you does not point to the WineX web site, this is the correct URL.

Note! WineX is commercial product and is not for free as Wine is.

Kind regards,
sbogus

haha.... oops.
lol.

yeah.... the correct one is transgaming.com

wineX stable is not free, is it 5$ ???
however wineX-cvs (which is developments and you must compile yourself)
IS free... but getting the free version to work requires a bit of work, knoledge, and luck.

anyways.. in my optinion, wineX is worth it.

No, $5 in Month is wineX. I don't know if and how Transgaming distribute their source code, but If I'm able to download a CVS-snapshot I'll surely manage to compile it to get it working...

Do you know where to get the CVS-snapshot of wineX?!

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
sbogus

Hi,

Thanks for the advice, i know wineX works with Warcraft3 i have seen it on their page.

For some reason it appeared on my harddisk after searching for it and clicking wild around.

This is also the version where i started Warcraft3 with. But its only strange that it works for just 1 time. and the second startup it did not work.

anyway i found a way of downloading Mandrake 10, i saw the screenshots and was convinced immediatley.

I think i' ll install it an look if its more user friendly then Redhat.
doesnt
after all, i started with linux just 6 days ago.

Kind Regards,

Cali

Warcraft 3 works perfectly under wineX 3.3 (that's my version build from cvs).

About the game being two slow it might be that you don't have the graphic card drivers installed and also that you don't invoque the game to run under opengl .
In my system i do it by tiping wine War3.exe --cmdline -opengl
in normal wine i thinks the it could be done by
wine War3.exe --opengl
to force the game to run under opengl; otherwise it will run under directdraw.
