Question Best linux distro for gamers like me.

Can anyone help me to find a distro for a gamer like me?
I am NOT expecting Shockwave cause it is only available on Windows and I am sick of Windows for eating up my precious time booting itself and its variety of viruses affecting my game play.I want a Linux that have live CD,install to hard drive and ABSOULTELY FREE <-----Important.Any Linuxes match my criteria?

I'd probably say Ubuntu studio. It is kinda optimised for realtime multimedia stuff. They have their download link at the ubuntu site

What kind of games are you expecting, I guess?

There are some specialty distros.

Or just install the games you want on whatever distro you use. Find one that works well with your graphics card and have at it.

firstly welcome to LQ the first place to come for all your linux queries.

just about any distro will do but no doubt about it for first time linux users ubuntu 9.10 there are plenty of games to download from synaptic but there is an application called wine which will run many of the windows games and apps thats free and again in synaptic.
There is a commercial fork of it called crossover but yu would have to pay for that although it isnt overly expensive google wine for their website and you will get a complete list of what windows apps will work that way you get the best of both worlds plus there are many emulators for the old atari commadore dos and other older gaming systems as far as im aware wine is distro independant so whatever linux you choose wine will almost certainly fit
