Exclamation Best Flavor For Running A Simple Postgres Server

I am looking for the best flavor of linux to run a standalone postgres SQL server on. The server is only going to run postgres with postgis and perl, and NOTHING more.

What is the most efficient, stripped down, simple, and reliable flavor of linux that supports perl and postgres? I have heard good things about CentOS but it seems to be too bloated for what I need.

Linux From Scratch might fit the bill. Or you could look into Damn Small Linux ...

Do a Base install of Debian Etch using the netinstall CD iso. (do not select desktop or any other options during install.)

then aptitude install the packages you need. pretty straight forward, and you will have a small clean install no extras. and by no extras, I mean even ssh will not be there, you will need to install it if you want it.

it-etch:$ aptitude search postgres
p postgresql-8.1 - object-relational SQL database, version 8.
p postgresql-client-8.1 - front-end programs for PostgreSQL 8.1
p postgresql-8.1-postgis - geographic objects support for PostgreSQL
p postgresql-plperl-8.1 - PL/Perl procedural language for PostgreSQL

it-etch:$ aptitude search postgis
p postgis - geographic objects support for PostgreSQL

it-etch:$ aptitude search perl
i A libperl5.8 - Shared Perl library
i perl - Larry Wall's Practical Extraction and Repo
i perl-base - The Pathologically Eclectic Rubbish Lister
