Best Desktop (GUI) ??

can someone plz help me on this, i rekon that KDE is very Buggy and freezes alot, and Gnome has less features that KDE, so i can't put up with both really

so is there better desktops than these two ? (KDE, GNOME)
and if there is where can i download them, and are they bug free ?
or at least not as buggy as KDE ?

thnx

This is asked quite frequently and a search probably would have turned up many results.

There are many desktop and window managers available for Linux, but there isn't a best one. That's just a personal opinion that most will give you.

A short list of some of the most common desktops/window managers:

KDE
Gnome
Blackbox
Fluxbox
WindowMaker
XFce
Enlightenment
Sawfish
Metacity

And many more....

Well I personally use Gnome and never have any problems. I don't think your going to find one totally bug free but about all of them are along the same in stableness, well at least the one's I've tried.

I've used Gnome, Blackbox, XFce, KDE (Hated, too bloated), WindowMaker and Enlightenment all at one time of another.

WARNING! - Totally untechnical answer here:

I use KDE (with Mandrake 9,1) - I've never had a crash or bug affect my work, it's intuitive (as Linux/Unix can be!!), and it's sooo pretty...

I think it's worth taking a peek! Kicks the butt off of XP, in my opinion!

On a personal side note, I'd love to hear the benefits of Gnome or WindowMaker over KDE, as it's the only one I've tried - and who knows? maybe some other pretty little thing may turn my head!!!!

Superficially yours,

I like a lighter window manager
icewm, window maker, fluxbox

It's cool because you can run and GNOME or KDE apps no matter what window manager you have.

icewm or enlightenment are really good because it works really well with the GNOME panel.

i use gnome it is a bit slow but still faster than kde i havent had problems with it like crashing. but if you want a lighter one check out fluxbox it is the best among window managers

I like gnome, but have blackbox installed also for when I want something with a little smaller footprint.
