best book for learning ubuntu
suggest me the best book for learning more about directories in ubuntu filesystem
|
Don't learn Ubuntu from a book, that's my advice. :) Ubuntu is a fast-moving distro with new releases every 6 months. A book from 2008, for example, might be referring to the 8.10 release, which is already obsolete.
Better to learn from the online documentation, which is constantly being updated: https://help.ubuntu.com/ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ And I think this is what you're looking for: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filesys...archy_Standard Good luck! |
Sounds like you want to learn linux instead of ubuntu...
There are a few guided tours of the linux filesystem... I'd recommend going through them step by step in terminal just to familiarize yourself with the BASH commands... but anyway, here is a decent blog that explains it very quickly... http://distrogue.blogspot.com/2007/0...ystem-for.html |
Yea, Ubuntu moves far too fast for a good manual to make it into book form. Personally I learned most stuff about commands from man pages in the terminal.

The best way to learn is to use the system. For a good reference on the directory tree, i reccomend www.linuxcommand.org
. It's taught me everything i know about the command line and it has a good page on the directory structure as well. and its written in a way that everyone can understand it, no unexplained technical jibber-jabber. Also, check out the Wiki that Snowpine posted a link to. it's a wealth of information |
