Beryl on Fedora 12?

hello, i tried installing beryl on my computer because i saw a youtube video showing how cool it was, but i have thus far had no success. and was unable to find anything on google about it either... if anyone has a particular expertise on this, it would be very much appreciated... thanks in advance for all your help!

I could be wrong but I thought beryl was no longer actively maintained. Have you tried using compiz instead?

i guess... but yes i tried installing compiz fusion, but i cannot get the active tool to work... basically i cant configure it... im embarrassed to say it but its the truth... i installed it through yum but did nothing else, so if there are additional steps i would gladly hear them...

First thing to check is if your installation is actually capable of running it. Please post the output of:

Code:

lspci | grep VGA
glxinfo | grep ^direct

ok here is how it went

Code:

[root@localhost AidenAndLuna]# lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
[root@localhost AidenAndLuna]# glxinfo | grep ^direct
direct rendering: Yes

Well, at least you have direct rendering. But googling for that chipset seems to indicate that you may not be able to run compiz. I'm not a compiz or 3D expert so, you may do well to do a bit of googling yourself.

Then if you can't get it working you can post back here with information about what you tried to do to get compiz working and what *exactly* were the reported errors.

Cheers,

i believe i found a way to remedy this situation, its at: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/RenderingProject/compiz

but i will get back with the end result!

SUCCESS!!!! just followed the instructions on the page, and now i have compiz fully operational... i never thought to look up an install manual b/c i already had it installed... my error. Thank you for all of your help evo, and i hope to be able to help you at some point in the future!

The documentation is always the first place you should look!

Installation and configuration can often be two quite distinct steps.

I'm glad you have success configuring this on your own. Congrats.

Enjoy,
