Belkin F5D7000 Wireless Card in Fedora 7 test 3
 

Okay...I've been searching various forums, such as these, and the Fedora forums, and thus far, have been unsuccessful. When trying the 'yum install madwifi' command, I cannot download the necessary packages and things of that sort for it, as it currently has no connection (I'm on my laptop's wireless right now, also wanting to convert this to Fedora..), I have downloaded the latest madwifi version from sourceforge, but, when I try setting the terminal to where I have madwifi saved (which is currently my desktop..anyways, I'm still pretty new to Linux, wanting something more than M$, but I've learned so far how to set the terminal to where I have the files I want installed and such, but whenever I enter the command that Fedora says to enter, or when I type "make /home/user/Desktop/madwifi-0.9.3.1/Makefile" or "/home/user/Desktop/madwifi-0.9.3.1/", it says that the Makefile cannot be found, when I know it's there...and nothing is just not working for me....But it does say that when I just type "/home/user/Desktop/madwifi-0.9.3.1" that it is a file/directory....and it says I don't even have access to the makefile in the madwifi directory...Do I need to download and install another program so the "make/make install" commands work in Fedora 7? Gosh I'm so clueless =\..And yes, when I enter those commands, I am logged in as root, everything's extracted and all..but I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. I just want to have internet on my Desktop >.<..

I have the Belkin Wireless CD that came with my Wireless G card (PCI), but I don't know how to get Ndiswrapper going...Do I need to download that thing, Yum or Livna or something? I'm so lost >.<...So far I can transfer downloaded files from my Laptop to my Desktop that has no internet via my Flash Drive..So what do I need to do?

First your biggest problem is using the old test 3 version of Fedora 7, F7 has been released. This is why you cannot use yum to install the madwifi rpm package, no repo is setup for F7t3 (6.93 vs 7 is the problem). See: cat /etc/*release

Second if you insist on running an old test version you need to install the kernel-devel and kernel-header rpm packages for your kernel in order to build the madwifi driver. hey are available here still;

As a suggestion install/updgrade to F7, it can be downloaded from here:

http://fedoraproject.org/

Once done update as a lot of fixes have come out; yum update
Then you can install the freshrpms-release package:

Then use yum to install the madwifi driver or dkms-ndiswarpper or many other packages.

Well...I don't know if it was exactly Test 3, I downloaded the 2.79 GB DVD torrent, right now I just wiped out my Fedora and im just running on a install of Ubuntu as a substitue so I don't have to run to my laptop ~.~...but, I downloaded the torrent from 5/31/2007, so I don't know if I posted the topic name wrong or what, lol. Searching through the file mirrors that are listed, I'm kinda lost in here, not sure what to download or not.

Okay..I installed the latest version, and when I typed 'yum update' in terminal, I got this.

Basically back to where I started, unable to connect to the internet since Wireless is not working on Fedora. I'm going to download that freshrpms file and head on back to my Fedora partition and see what happens from there.

Well, I didn't have much luck there either after I installed that freshrpm package..*sigh* I feel like I'm getting no where =\..I think I'm just about to go buy a wire for my desktop just so I can temporarily connect it to do all these updates and things of that sort >.<..

Manually download and install the yum updateds from here;

Which ones to get you ask????, find out by using the typed command; rpm -qa 'yum*'
