beginner using bandwidthd

I need an application to monitor my internet usage, since I only have a limited amount every month. I've read that bandwidthd is useful, so I downloaded and installed it...but I don't know how to use it! My questions are:

How do you start it? I tried typing ./bandwidthd into the console but nothing happened.

How do you view the html graphs? The man page says they're in /var/lib/bandwidtd/htdocs/ but I don't see them there.

Do you think another program would suit me better?

Thanks for your help.

Have you been to this website?

http://bandwidthd.sourceforge.net/

It should answer your questions.

Yes I have, and I did not find any actual instructions.

You're right. It's supposed to be the bandwithd homepage but I've followed the links from that page to documentation right the way through and there's zilch! Perhaps you should dump the heap of crap and google for something better. The trouble is that Bandwidth Monitor NG also has very little by way of instructions and I the only other I know of is Ibmonitor. You could check it out. There are probably others; you'd have to google.

I'm sorry to have been of little help.

No problem, those two suggestions seem to be just what I'm looking for, but in the meantime I found vnstat

http://humdi.net/vnstat/

which is doing the job.
