Beep code

OK. This is not really a "Linux" question but i had no idea where to go with this. I just turned my computer on and i started gettin a beep code (dee doo, dee doo, dee doo) kinda like the phones. anyway i reboot and notice the boot up screen says Unkown CPU type. ok I have an AMD Athlon 2400+ and 512 DDR ram. And my computer is not recodnizing any of it. I am kinda worried that something is f00ked and I will need to get a new CPU at the least. Please anyone who can lemme know of anything you can think of. I know the generals of putting a computer together and about the stuff in it. So not too technical if you can please!

well just a quick question first, but can you enter the BIOS ?
if not, is there a jumper on your board to reset the BIOS ?

Oakstaff,

If you can find the name of the manufacture of your motherboard (it is often printed on the motherboard itself), we can try to hunt down the support information from the manufacture regarding the exact definition of the beep codes, which could help narrow down the problem considerably.

You might be lucky and have something easy like a disconnected CPU fan that is preventing the cpu from starting up (many modern motherboards have this little 'saftey feature').

The Mobo is an Albatron and the Bios is Pheniox(sp) and I am on the system now, it runs still so its not the fan, when its that it wont boot at all. For awhile yesterday it was recodnizing the CPU so i thought it might be better but just now i got the beep code again and it didn't reboot or anything just the damn annoying beeping!

Try this site. It lists the most common AMI, Phoenix and Award BIOS beep codes.
