Battery monitor return incorrect value, problem to have APM support in kernel ?

Hi all,
I have a little problem.
I have a "HP Pavilion ze4200" laptop.
I've just installed Fedora Core 3 from cd-rom, with the inclued 2.6.10 kernel.

I just want to use the monitor for the battery, wich is in the gnome panel (next the clock ... you can find it when you use your mouse, left button, add to panel item).

This battery monitor didn't return the correct value ...
So I have ACPI inclued by default in the kernel, but not APM support.

So I think, if I add APM support to the kernel, maybe this monitor can return the correct value.
I've just recompiled the kernel and checked APM support.

My computer work fine with my new re-compiled kernel ... but I don't have any APM support !!

So what's wrong ?

Maybe I don't need APM support if anyone can tell me how the battery monitor applet can return correct value and using ACPI ...

So is APM really needed ?
Anyone know a Monitor Battery looking like the battery monitor for gnome panel, wich use ACPI ?

If not, anyone can tell me why APM support is not present when I re-compile my kernel ?

and sorry for my bad english ... ;p
