BASIC LINUX Q's
 
1) How do i find out what version of mandrake do i have. Cuz none of the theme files i download work.

2) How do i get a external cd burner to work because it either doesnt detect it or i went to the wrong place

3) How do i get a mp3 player to work.

4) what are some of the default rpm dir. Some i found at usr/bin but i still havent found a few of them. LMK thanks!

1) run 'cat /etc/*release'

as for your other questions, we need more info.

What type of burner is it? what interface does it use ie: usb, parrallel port? What mp3 player are you trying to use? What errors is it giving you?

Its usually seen during start up...

If the external cd burner is detected then you will have no problem... if it is not detected try to ask your manufacturer if it has drivers for Linux...

I'm pretty sure that mandrake comes with mp3 support.... but you can download Mplayer.... it should be able to play mp3s and other audio, video files...

I'm not sure in Mandrake.... I use Red Hat 9....

or instead of rebooting, just run 'cat /etc/*release' as I suggested...;)

Have you tried XMMS? It comes with mandrake...if it doesn't work, post up error messages.
