Basic instructions for FTP file sharing?

I just need to transfer some files from my friends laptop to my computer in linux, and I can't seem to figure out how to set up ftp on my computer. I am running slack 9.0.

all I need is the basic commands to let me browse my computer from somewhere else on the network useing an FTP client and then upload files to a certain place from his computer. Thanks.

you could install proftpd which you'll then be able to access with an ftp client such as gftp...

you can get a slackpack of the latest stable version of proftpd at linuxpackages.net, that way you won't even need to compile from source:

http://www.linuxpackages.net/redirec...-i486-1jim.tgz

to install it just do your usual:

installpkg proftpd-1.2.9-i486-1jim.tgz

here's some docs that will help you get it running... some of this info is directed toward other distros, but you'll get the idea and you shouldn't have any problems adjusting what you read to slackware...
