Basic installation question - Opensuse 11.2

Hi,
After I burn the DVD image, I put the disc on the computer and boot. The installation screen appears, the acknowledgement screen appears, then the installation checks my system and gives me a yast window with an error about something related to URLs and repositories. I cannot continue with the installation.

I am 100% new at this and thought it would be as easy as installing ubuntu (which I installed on a laptop and works flawlessly).

I am trying distros and opensuse is compatible with my video card right out of the box apparently, so that's why I chose it for my desktop.

Do I need to copy the dvd image to the hard disk of the computer I want to install opensuse on, and use the dvd to boot as well?
Thanks.

#1 I am no expert! #2 I have installed OpenSUSE on one computer.

As I remember, Yast needs access to the internet during setup even if you have an installation DVD.
If you connect with wireless, it may be unrecognized by the setup process, but most network adapters are.

You do not have to copy the image to your hard drive.

I suspected that. Thank you!
I'll report if I encounter problems.

I don't agree...

Did you run "Check Installation Medium" from the menu on the first boot screen?

If I boot my 11.2 DVD without an internet connection, it proceeds with the installation process.

I think that openSUSE 11.2 should install and, at the point that YAST would connect to the openSUSE repositories for updated packages and dependencies needed for the software to be installed, it would tell you there is no connection, that it is limited to the DVD, and that the installation will continue with what is on the DVD.

This is what I remember happening in previous versions of openSUSE. More posts will give more information, but I think your problem is something else.

Exactly when did you receive the error notice and what did it say?

Yes that is correct if you use DVD you hardly need the internet.

I did not run the installation medium. I received the error notice at the system probing screen. It goes all the way to 100% and then the YAST window pops up telling me the URL/repositories thing. I should have written it down, but I'm at work right now and I can only get to it at night.

The media was the problem.
