.bash_profile for oracle user

Dear all,

I have some difficulties to understand PATH, LD_LIBRARY_PATH and CLASS_PATH. For oracle user above all are required or NOT ?

To set . bash_profile for oracle From Version 4.x to 6.x
Do i need any changes or same configuration ?

PHP Code:

export EDITOR=vi
export ORACLE_HOSTNAME
=AUSUAT
export ORACLE_BASE
=/u01/app/oracle
export ORACLE_HOME
=$ORACLE_BASE/product/11.2.0/dbhome_1
export PATH
=
export  LD_LIBRARY_PATH=
export CLASSPATH

Last three lines i am getting confusion.

Setting the PATH to empty for any user is a big mistake. It means you won't be able to use simple things like ls and cd as the system won't know where to find them.

These days Oracle ships with a script called oraenv which helps you to set your environment variables, so doing them by hand is often not needed.

As for LD_LIBRARY_PATH and CLASSPATH, these may affect any compilation work you might need to do so unless you know what you are doing I wouldn't be playing around with them.

On the other side of the coing, if you really currently have those settings in your Rhel 4.x version, then it should affect you exactly the same in 6.x
