Bash scripting rpm
Hey guys

can someone please help me with this

Displays ONLY the description text for the RPM package

how can you do it , ive read online that

"# rpm -qi " gets you all the information
how can i just get description ?

any help will be most appreciated

Hi there,

Yes you can get the information about the rpm package using -qi. What you need to do is as follows:

rpm -qi package_name

If you are not sure about the package name and suppose you want to get the information about vsftpd. Then you can do as follows:

rpm -qa | grep vsftpd

The above command will get you the package_name. -qa is for query all.

Once you got the package name you can then execute the command: rpm -qi package_name.
