Bare Minimum Install

What is needed for a bare minimum linux install? Let's say, using Suse 9.3 Professional. I would like to install linux with just what is needed for it to run, and add from there to try to get some more experience with it and understand some of the applications and packages =). Thanks in advance

If you really want to learn Linux, use Slackware. This question is way easier. The base linux system is in "a/" disk set.

Tuxdev is right. It would be easier with Slackware, Debian, or Gentoo...etc..
But, most distros give you a choice to manually choose packages.
Some have a check box for minimal install
Just pay attention as you are going through the SUSE install process.

Rather than thinking you need a minimal install you can just press CTRL-ALT-F2 and see what you think. (Remember CTRL-ALT-F7 will get you back, usually, distros vary)
A much more useful approach would be to read and build at least the basic Linux from Scratch. I did that and even though I was way over my head at the time I got it running and learned a lot. It gives you an idea what is in a basic system and how much trouble anyone putting together a distribution goes to for you.
Doing a minimal install from SUSE just requires choosing that option.
