bandwith limiter

hey, i need a bandwidth Limiter to my Fedora Core 3, and i am a :newbie: , so it would be nice if it weren't TOO hard to use

blindcoder 09-17-2005 08:43 AM

What kind of bandwidth limiting? 5GB per month? or bandwidth limiting for certain program, ie: webbrowser onl 5kB/sec?

Derrick3 09-17-2005 10:01 AM

for programs, control the bandwith usage of different programs

blindcoder 09-17-2005 10:18 AM

Most programs that can benefit the limiting of their bandwidth already provide that functionality.
What program are you talking about and how do you want to limit its bandwidth?

This is a possible idea but does take a bit of reading. If you installed a HTB qdisc then you can control the bandwidth per port or ip for source or destination. Try looking at

http://sourceforge.net/projects/htbinit/

and read up on queueing theory on
http://www.masterscripts.de/howto/en/Adv-Routing-HOWTO/

It is a bit advanced but there is a lot of documentation available and that script (1st link ) makes it very easy to do
