Bad PBR sig when trying to boot FC5 install DVD
I have just uninstalled ubuntu and wanted to try a new linux distro, so i downloaded FC5 by recomendation of my college lecturer. The problem that i am having is that whenever i try to boot from the DVD i get an error saying "Bad PBR sig".
I know it isn't my CD drive as i had to boot to my XP install disk to fix my boot sector. Any help will be much appreciated, Eccentric :) Edit** I get the error even if i try to boot without the FC5 DVD in it. But i must stress that it will boot with my WinXP disk in it. |
hello
Hi there new user try typing
Bad PBR sig in to google and see what you get. have you got windows on your harddrive. you could try another disk where did you get it from did you download it or buy it. let google be your frend or you could try mepis |
PBR means Partition Boot Record.
You likely have a drive in the machine that has a bad boot record, but it is specified in your BIOS as a boot drive. Either change the BIOS configuration to remove the drive, or rewrite the boot record on that drive. |
Also, make sure to check the DVD for any scratches or smudges. I've had the weirdest problems thanks to them....

Thanks
Thanks for all the help, after removing my second HDD from the boot order it stopped the error message but then i found out the disk was not properly burnt. I am now halfway through the install.
Can't tell you how greatfull i am for all your help. |
