Backupping with knoppix gives error Read-only
 

Hi,
I am trying to backup a crashed hard disc with knopix. Knoppix does see my hard drive and my portable hard drive. but says that both aint wrightable. I tried to set different permissions in konqueror and with teh command shell (chmod) but it wont work. Does any one heave an idea of what i should do?(btw. sorry for my bad english)

It may be that the disks are mounted read only. Run 'mount' from a terminal. What does it show you?

Wel it shows nothing after i try to mount it. i cant type anny comands and the drive is not mounted.

When you run mount command with parameters, it exits with an error message if there's a problem, but without any errors if there's a success. In my previous post I was writing about simply running 'mount', without any parameters. it should show you a list of your mounted partitions (minimum one - root) with their mount options.

I heave downloaded slax wich did work. so there aint anny problems anny moere but thanks for you help.
