backup for my upgraded ubuntu 13.04 using dell recovery
 

i recently got a dell inspiron n5520 with ubuntu 11.10. Being a noob with ubuntu os i decided to search sites and then upgrade to the latest version one version at a time. Unfortunately two days back while upgrading to ubuntu 12.10 i encountered errors and the system crashed. However i restored back to 11.10 using dell recovery.i upgraded from scratch to 12.10 and tonight i want to get to 13.04. Once i have done that id like to know how to backup 13.04 with dell recovery. So if my system crashes again i dont have to fall back to 11.10. Someone please guide me.

according to my experience, Ubuntu and its kin are sometimes bitchy about upgrading. I'd rather suggest you to back up your current working data (probably your home directory), and then do a clean install of the current version from scratch. That's far easier and less troublesome than upgrading from one release to another - assuming you were using the system close to its default configuration.

well i have already upgraded all the way to 12.10 whats left is 13.04. However i tried to backup using dell recovery but i dont know why the backup is of 11.10. What i want to know is how to backup my current version and not the silly 11.10. Am also new to all this so a detailed guide or a link would be much appreciated bro.
