backing up server

Hi there

I have a plesk dedicated server (plesk 9 i think) and I have been told by someone who installed some software on my server I need to upgrade my php.

They dont want to upgrade as they are worried it will break my server, so it looks like ive gotta do it myself.

Ive found out how to do this and it doesnt seem too complex.

The only problem i have is backing up the server, I have no idea how to do this, and was told to go into the plesk directory, unfortunatly i dont have a plesk directory I have spoke to the provider of the sever and they dont support it !

GREAT !!!

So anyone got any simple advice on what I should do, there seems to be lots of software out there to put on my server to help me do backups, but i dont even know how to install something onto my server to be able to do this lol !

I can log in via ftp and via root and browse the directories no problems and i think i would be able to perform the upgrade, im just worried that if something goes wrong i will lose everything, thats why im wanting to back it up and it seems no one wants the responsiblity to do this

Any help appreciated

Woc

My suggestion is do a full shutdown of all daemons and then do a rsync/rsnapshot backup of the *entire* server.

That being said /usr/local/psa is typically where things are installed with plesk.
