I'm a complete newbie with Linux - still downloading the iso so haven't even seen it running yet! - so any help with this would be much appreciated.

Right, so I've got a fair bit of old stuff here tech-wise. Standard NIC's in both machines with a 4-way hub (all pretty generic stuff, nowt fancy) on old bitser pc's. The network is set up so that the WinXP machine controls the connection, my pc has always been sharing her connection.

Ok, I know the best way to do things is to have the linux machine as the main machine but that's my partners pc and getting her off windows will be like weaning her off chocolate, and hers is the machine that NTL talks to so I've got to intergrate with that one...
