AVI files are not working on Totem GStreamer

Hi all,

I'm facing difficulties in running avi files on Totem GStreamer. Every time I try to run such files I get the error message
Quote:

You don't have a decoder installed to handle this file.
You might need to install the necessary plugins
Well, I have downloaded several plugins and had them saved in all possible locations yet I'm still not able to run these AVI files.
I got these codecs "essential-20061022.tar.bz2" which used to work fine with Kafein and I had them saved under the following directories:
/usr/lib/win32/
/usr/local/lib/win32
/usr/local/lib/codecs/
/usr/lib/codecs

but the problem is still there

I also found in one web page instructions on how to add codecs for Totem. However, the instructions listed there do not apply to the Totem I have. According to the steps listed in that page I should go to
Quote:

Edit menu --> Preferences --> General tab--> "Add Proprietary Plugins..."
The problem with these instructions is that I don't have the option "Add Proprietary Plugins..." :(

Does any one know what is the problem in here?

Please advise.
