.avi file invisible in hardy hard disc

heres a peculiar problem.from a pen drive i copied a folder containing a .avi file of 700mb which was copied to an ntfs file system within reasonable time.when i opened the folder i was surprised to see only a thumbs file of there any file type my hardy system is unable to recognise?the same folder has my 700mb file when accessed through is it possible?

Correct me if I am wrong but I dont think there is a file type that cannot be seen by linux. Obviously some files cannot be run such as bat or exe files files.

Does the file start with a "." period? It will not be seen unless you type ls -a.

Perhaps it did not get copied from the pen drive.

Try the find command to find the file. Try
find <path to windows dir> -iname <file.avi>
