AVG anti-virus on Ubuntu 8

I downloaded AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition for Linux (avg85flx-r287-a2632.i386.deb). after I downloaded the file the Package Installer started. When it was done I didn't see a AVG app in my Applications tab. I did double click on the installer again and the Package installer opened up and it looks like the only option I have is to re-install.

I looked at a few other internet links and it looks like there is are a few different ways to install applications. I got the install instructions from here http://www.howtoforge.com/avg_antivirus_ubuntu_feisty Is there a better way to do this? Is the program really installed? How do I find it? Would Clamav be a better option?

Thanks

When you sudo, you are root to execute that command.

Code:
Making a launcher to start AVG

Code

sudo rm -r /usr/share/applications/avggui.desktop
sudo nano /usr/share/applications/avg.desktop

add:
Code:

[Desktop Entry]
Name=AVG Antivirus
Comment=Antivirus
Exec=gksudo avggui &
Icon=/opt/grisoft/avggui/prog/pixmaps/avgico_big.png
Terminal=false
Type=Application
Categories=Application;System;

save and exit.

You can now start AVG by going to Applications tab ---> System Tools.
It is a good idea to logout, and login again after you did all the changes.
