Hi i was just wondering if there was a program for linux like avedesk for windows...it is a great icon tool..that allows you to create icons using any image...it is just great...

so i wanted to know if there was one like that for linux...kde or gnome it doesnt matter

naw nothing, but there has got to be some program that is like avedesk for the opensource world....linux world.....

probabbly,
mabie the draw function of open office
www.openoffice.org would do that. worth a try as it is a good peice of software irreigardless (is a direct replacement for M$ office)

AveDesk looks just like Dashboard for Windows. I'd say give gDesklets a go, last time I used it there was no hotkey functionality but I recently heard they were implementing it. Not sure if it's done yet or not but that's close to what you want.

alright, but will gdesklets give me the ability to make icons that are shortcuts, like a regular icon, but more customizeable...

Did you actually look for gDesklets before asking that? Because if you did, I'd imagine you'd have seen the Just An Icon display on the gDesklets home page which is the closest thing you're going to get.
