automounting cdrom

before, when I insert a cd on the cdrom drive, it is automatically mounted and an icon appears on the desktop. I can readily access the drive by double clicking on the icon on the desktop. but now, when I insert a cd, it is not automatically mounted. I have to manually mount the cdrom drive by invoking the command ' mount /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom '. Can somebody please tell me how to go back to my original configuration where an inserted cd will automatically be mounted. thanks....
