Automount 2nd Drive in Gnome
 

Hi - I've just added a second CD drive to my system and it's working just fine. The only thing that bugs me is that I have to manually mount it whenever I want to use it.

Gnome has a CD properties preference that allows you to set actions when a CD is inserted, but it looks like these properties are only applicable to the first drive I aleady had. There's no opportunity to "add a drive" or "view alternate drive preferences" or anything that I can see that would allow me to operate on this second drive through the Gnome CD preference facility.

Does anyone know of a way to have a second drive automount in Gnome and can the operations performed after automount be controlled like they are for the original drive?

Don't know about the second part of your question, but if you edit /etc/fstab you should see a line specifying how your first CD is mounted , just copy this line and change the cd name and mount point as apropriate and see what happens

/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0
/dev/cdrom1 /mnt/cdrom1 udf,iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0

I have my machine booting up in command-line mode and when I want a desktop, I issue the startx command. In command-line, neither CD drive automounts (which is the way I wanted it), but in Gnome that first drive automounts.

In Gnome, I've found where to contol this automounting and whether I want an audio CD to automatically begin playing, etc. but there is no specification in this preference panel about what device is being referred to. It just says "CD" preferences. There's no way of indicating an alternate or additional device, so maybe this is just a limitiation of the Gnome desktop interface.

Well, at least it's not a big deal. It's more a curiosity than anything, but thanks for the help.
